Garlic is known not only as one flavor of cuisine, but also used for herbal medicine. One of them because garlic contains essential oils that are anti-bacterial and antiseptic.

A new study shows that garlic has great potential to prevent cardiomyopathy, a form of heart disease is the leading cause of death in diabetics.

As quoted from the Times of India, health experts Wei-Wen Kuo noted, people with diabetes have at least doubled the risk of death from heart disease.

The study shows that garlic can help control high blood sugar abnormalities that occur in diabetics. They found that rats given garlic oil experienced positive changes associated with protection against heart damage.

The changes appear to be associated with strong antioxidant properties of essential oils contained in garlic. The scientists said they identified more than 20 substances in garlic oil that can contribute to provide a healing effect.

“In conclusion, garlic oil has significant potential to protect the heart from damage to heart muscle tissue as a cause of cardiomyopathy,” said one researcher.

Not only that, aliin and  allicin in garlic is also an anti-cholesterol, which is useful to prevent coronary heart disease and high blood pressure.
